Dear friends, welcome to Notes By The Bay Music School!

NBTB was founded in 2015 in the SF Bay Area by violinist Hannah Tarley,

with the vision of bringing together music, poetry, theater, ensemble performance, imagination, and creativity.

With a focus on violin, cello, and piano, we explore the connection between music and spoken word, putting together performances that elevate the spirits of both the listener and the performer.

During our Summer Festival (for kids 7 - 18), we select pieces that help our students not only improve and develop their playing technique, but also explore their creative power, imagination, and leadership skills.

We specialize in one-on-one private lessons (violin, piano, and cello), violin Ensemble groups, MiniNotes for young beginners (ages 3 - 7),  orchestra/audition preparation, masterclasses, and competition preparation. Over the past few years, our students have performed solo with youth orchestras across the Bay Area, and have received awards from competitions such as BAMA's US Open Int'l Competition, and Golden Classical Music Awards.

Taking music lessons at NBTB and working with our faculty plays a pivotal role in helping our students achieve remarkable success, and has helped them gain acceptance to prestigious universities such as:

Stanford University, Yale University, Princeton University,

UC Berkeley, Brigham Young University, Wesleyan University, Scripps College, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign,

University of Oregon, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern,

MIT, CalTech, University of Michigan, &

University of Maryland.

The discipline, creativity, and teamwork fostered through our music curriculum not only enriches their educational experience but also equips our students with valuable skills that resonate in their academic pursuits.
